I have zero experience with Airport (that's the Mac wireless networking access point, right? Or are the client NICs also referred to as "airport"?), but lots of experience with PCs. This is probably a bit rudimentary, but I'd suggest you look in the configuration options for your PC FTP client. Perhaps the client doesn't establish a connection without first needing to send a carriage return. Next time you try to connect... hit the [RETURN] key on the PC keyboard after you see the connection response, and before you see the connection dropped.
