Hi all,

Recently I have been experiencing a strange problem
with Photoshop 6 on my iMac 400mhz. When I try to open
a Photoshop document by double clicking on it,
Photoshop starts up, and displays the message Reading
PICT file format, then converts the file to PICT. It
does not do this conversion if I open the document
from inside Photoshop using the open command, only
when I double click it.

I tried using a different, archived Photoshop 6
application, I tried trashing the preferences, I tried
different documents, and I got the same problem every
time. I also tried using Photoshop 5.5 and got the
same problem. :-(

Strangely enough though, when I started up off of my
external hard drive, Photoshop worked correctly. Oddly
enough, the system folders (System 9.1) on both hard
drives were virtually the same.

I dont know exactly when the problem started, I have
been trying to think back to what I did to the
computer that might have caused the problem. I removed
some extensions and control panels I wasnt usingand
promptly put them back when I noticed the problem. I
also ran Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk. I also
went ahead and updated the internal hard drive to
System 9.2.2 after the problem started, but the
problem remained the same. I mentioned Norton because
of the recent debate concerning its usefulness. Is it
possible Norton corrupted something?

Although this Photoshop problem is not particularly
serious, it is annoying. If anyone has any ideas on
how to fix this problem, I would appreciate it. :-)

Edward
