Chas Martin sez: Macs will often become dangerously unstable/crashprone when the wrong RAM is put in them. I've seen this firsthand when a friend bought 256MB of RAM for $40 from OfficeMax and tried to use it in his iMac. Freaky behaviour. My advice is to use what is recommended. ----------------
Chas, Your point is well-taken. I was simply stating that CAS2, from my experience in the WinTel world, seems like a high-end requirement for a desktop machine. But if CAS2 is standard fare in the MacWorld, I will not argue. I agree... with RAM prices being what they are today, it's senseless to try to shave off $12.33 from a <=$75 stick of RAM. On a similar note, I have found that Linux/UNIX is a lot less tolerant of media errors than other WinTel OSes. In my mental filecabinet, I'm filing Mac into a similar category of finicky (this time, as relates to memory refresh speed).
