just getting to mail today... I see this was posted a few days ago.
The setting in question is for sharing your internet connection. Let's  
say
you have two or more machines networked (say, with a hub) and one with
the internet connection (DSL, Cable or even Dial-up). The other machines
will gain access via that shared connection if allowed in the panel.
Not sure what the Internet settings and parameters will be for the  
others.
(I would guess that they would use the address of the connected machine
as default router).
