I just bought another iMac on Ebay and after comparing all the Xbench files it appears that the hard drive makes a big difference on scores, seemingly more so than RAM on this computer based on the data that I was reading.
I seem to remember someone mentioning on this list that they had popped 2 512's in a 350, just wanted confirmation on that before I order them. Also I know that the 350 is one of the fanless models. I was wondering if anyone was using 7200 rpm drives and if so what brand and what if any cooling problems have you had? I'm looking at a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X 40 GB Hard Drive figured with that 8.5 ms access it should do pretty good. This iMac will be my first home computer with a 100 Mhz bus. After looking at Xbench scores of people who had gotten the Sonnet upgrades for the Rev A-D, they were getting just about the same scores as my 7300 due to their slow video, whereas the 350 seemed to pretty much go neck and neck with the 400 model and was noticably higher than my frankenmac. I just got mine for $276 and I repaired/upgraded a guy's mac this weekend and made $125 of extra money so for $151 out of pocket figured it was time to make the jump. I figured rather than upgrade the wife's Bondi iMac. I'd get the 350 and part back out my frankenmac. The 350 seems fine for what my home uses are, and to tell you the truth I'm tired of messing with an unsupported X system.... it was fun.. but its time to move on.
