When you install FCP 3, it knows what machine you installed it onto. So, if
you bring it to another machine, it will get mad. Even if you do it legally
and use the serial # that came with FCP. I did that recently when we moved
FCP from my wife's computer to mine, I just copied the files over, but when
I launched it, it told me that the ID # of the computer I was using was
different from the # on which it was installed. (That's not verbatim, but
you get the idea).

I know FCP wont run in classic, but is it possible the FCP 1 installer will?

Another idea: Install FCP 1 on your friends imac, and move over the
appropriate files to your imac, then install the FCP 3 update?

good luck, and let us know how it goes.
