Hi,

1. Not everything "Clinton era" was Clinton-caused.
Even less Al-Gore-caused. Perhaps it was really
the Gingritch era?

2. What's Clinton got to do with anything we're talking
about? He frequently acted like a jerk. So what? I'm
talking about the then Congressman Gore's contributions
to getting the Internet funding going. Period.

3. Vincent Cerf is not a business executive, he's one of
the most respected computer scientists in the world.

The fact that he worked at some point at MCI is
irrelevant.

And the other two quoted references certainly didn't work
there. Or are you claiming that everyone who says
something nice about Gore is somehow bought and
paid for?

I was programming back when it was called DARPANET,
and it was a bunch of academics talking to each other
about various things on Unix boxes using old protocols
nobody will ever see again. Virtually nobody was sitting
around imagining Travelocity and Yahoo and online
banking. Seeing the commercial possibilities and making
the funding available took insight and some considerable
work. The fact that in Congress, Al Gore did that is
just not compatible, apparently, with some versions of
reality, and that's too bad, because it was a valuable
contribution and he deserves some credit for it.

Best wishes,

-greg
