I had a friend visiting today in Virginia with his iMac, 700Mhz, slot loading CD-RW, I think Graphite color.
Outlook Express 5 for Mac refuses to send. Messages remain in outbox. Dialog box appears saying: Error. Mail could not be sent to account "mail.comcast.net." Explanation. The specified server could not be found. ERROR : -3170. Receiving mail fine. This iMac was connected via my router and cable modem to cox.net. Accounts Settings shows SMTP server as "smtp.comcast.net," but the settings shows POP server as "mail.comcast.net, the same phrase that shows up in the error message. It seems strange that the error message would refer to the setting for the POP server which handles incoming mail. Is my cox.net the issue here? Friend's wife who uses the iMac at home in Florida says that this error message sometimes showed up at home. I cannot be sure she is correct. There could have been another error situation at play. What does the error 3170 indicate? Many thanks, -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
