I have never received a message like this from LEM before and as far as I
know no messages have been bouncing from any other senders, so is this a legit
aviso, or what? I was hesitant to reply to it directly in case doing so might
co-opt the security of my iMac. --Better safe than sorry!

the message is legit. most LEM mailing list members get a few every couple of days. they are of no consequence, and you can safely ignore them.
