The speaker jacks are not optimal but you could use them. Ideally what you want is RCA-style line level outputs from your tape deck (any dedicated tape deck will have them) to hook to the iMic or microphone jack. If you use the speaker jacks, you'll have more distortion/noise because you'll be going through the amplifier in your system. There is a chance of "overloading" but only if you turn up the volume on your stereo too far.
