I've just acquired a 350 mHz Blueberry slot loading iMac. I know it's old,
but circumstances require that I postpone my dreams of a fast new machine.
I'm adding a large hard drive for $30 and 512 Meg ram for $67, but I can't
find a CD-RW to replace the internal CD ROM unless I spend $380 (ouch!).
Does anybody have any ideas? Would an external USB CD RW work well enough? I
need some way of backing up the data on this machine, so I need to find
something that works. (it has NO Fire Wire port.)
External will work, however, you'll be limited to the transfer speed of USB 1.0. Junior grade daughter has been hordes of CD's with her iMac Summer 2000, 350 G3 over USB. She has one of OWC's Mercury Plextor external burners. Has both Firewire and USB which is very handy when moving it from Mac to Mac.
