Yes, the last version of Netscape for 8.6-9.2.2 is version 7.02, based
on Mozilla 1.2, which was the last version of that for 8.6-9.2.2

Don't know if Netscape 7.2 is based on Mozilla 1.3 or 1.4, but beginning
with Mozilla 1.3, the official Mozilla only runs under OS X (hence
Netscape 7.2's similar requirement).

It's too bad there wasn't a Netscape 7.1 for 8.6-9.2.2, because it most
likely would have been this minor miracle: WamCom

http://wamcom.org/

You'll be able to find what you want on the next page:
723.sit>

WamCom is the Mozilla 1.3 build for OS X modified to run under
8.6-9.2.2. Any tweaks or skins for Mozilla 1.3 will work under WamCom
(because it IS Mozilla 1.3).

I've used it under 8.6 on a production machine at work with no crashes
and under 9.2.2 at home on pre-G3 PCI Macs with success. As with any
recent version, allocate 'er some extra RAM.

Some characteristics:
First, when you unstuff the download it's ready to go. None of that
take-all-day install with recent versions of Netscape.

There are significant performance improvements. It still takes a while
to launch, but not as long as Netscape 7.02 for example. You know those
screwed up Preference screens? Fixed. Ultra-slow too? Fixed. Tabbed
browsing/blocked pop ads? Of course.

The only anomoly I've found so far is that my preference for search
engine sometimes would revert back to Netscape. Does anyone really go to
netscape.com for internet searches? I found the Netscape search module
buried in one of the many folders and trashed it; it's gone from the
menu and Google sticks now.

I also had some earlier problems perhaps not unrelated to an older
Mozilla folder hanging around, as well as Netscape 4.7 still installed
(we use it for a propriatary intranet page at work). Specifically there
were odd interface glitches that slowly began to creep in. A backup of
the Mozilla folder in the Documents Folder cured it --- highly
recommended.

I'm a big fan of IE 5.1.x for the old OS; used it for a long time
exclusively and generally abhored any version of Netscape. But get
WamCom. Better than Netscape 7.02, and most likely the most capable
browser OS 9 will ever see, unless a mircle or two happens with iCab
... some day.
