There could be something magnetic close to the monitor, like a power supply, digital clock, speaker, magnet :-), etc. If you move everything away and it is still there, you might be able to cure it by turning the monitor off for, say, 30 seconds, then back on, repeat that a few times. There is a coil of wire around the picture tube called a degausser. When you turn the monitor on (and it's cold), the degausser turns on for a few seconds to demagnetize the metal parts around the tube. (That's what causes the loud hum when you turn a monitor of TV on) If you ever see a video game or TV that stays on all the time, you may notice a splotch similar to yours, that's because they're never turned off and on, and they don't get degaussed. The earth's magnetic field magnetizes the metal parts around the tube, and causes the splotch. A lot of my customers used to turn their games 90 degrees every few weeks to prevent this.
If worse comes to worse, you can take it to a TV shop and ask them to degauss it for you.

Hi all,

I bought an iMac about a month ago (Rev C.) that Had been put in a Macintosh IICi Case because the analog power board was shot. Anyway he set up a VGA port for video to plug in a new monitor/ I went to a computer sale yesterday and found a nice Perfect (at the time) Apple 17in Studio display for cheap. So i bought it and put it on the iMac, and i noticed that in the upper left hand corner of the screen there is a reddish color about 2 inches down and across. It was worse before, but reducing zoom down to nothing made it much better. Still the redness really annoies me, so I was wondering if there was an easy way to fix this problem. Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks In Advance

Derek
