I, too, plan to upgrade from 10.1.5 to Jag next week. Other than the system upgrade mentioned below (and a full backup, of course), is there anything else I need to know/do prior to installing Jaguar?
Yes. Immediately after you upgrade, run Disk Utility (which is in your Utilities folder) and repair permissions. Then restart the machine. That should help make the "new" system run smoothly right away.
