I'd only half been paying attention to the .Mac thread, since the only major thing that sounded interesting was the iPhoto part, and I've been paying for Yahoo Photos' "Premium storage," so I didn't need that. Oops. "Notice: Announcing important service changes to Yahoo! Photos/Briefcase." Grr. Basically, unless I switch to their SBC Yahoo ISP, nobody will be able to view any full-sized (usually 640x480) image anymore, only their little 300x225 reduction of it. And this is better than their free photo accounts because? Well, you get more storage. And this is better than opening multiple free photo accounts because?? Umm... well...
So, .Mac. It says in the FAQ that the minimum browser is Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later, Netscape 7 or later. Well, I don't do MS, I can't do Safari since I don't have 10.2 yet (at this point, I'm just waiting for 10.3 to come out), and for some reason Netscape 6 and 7 don't seem to work well for me (pages just don't load, then the whole thing crashes...), although 4.8 works fine, as does Opera 6 and iCab. Has anyone had success in using non-recommended browsers with it? Mostly I'm running under 9.2.2, but I also have 10.1.3 for when I need it. And what other photo hosting services does anyone recommend? Right now I'm using 250MB for over a thousand photos from 400x300 to 1280x960, mostly from 40K to 200K each. I want to share them with others in whatever resolution *I* feel is appropriate for that image, rather than postage stamp-sized unless you purchase a print from them. Where else can I get that? Earthlink's webspace is too small and the maximum traffic is WAY too small. I'll post a batch of 640x480 photos from a concert or convention, give a link on one of the fan boards or newsgroups, and within two days I've reached my maximum bandwidth for the month. They seem to think that that sort of traffic means that I have a commercial website. Um, no, just a small fanpage. There's just lots of fans out there who forward the link if the photos are good enough. So, something with high or unlimited bandwidth would be nice. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
