Can't find a definitive spec on the power supplied through IEEE-1394. 
According to one site, devices must be able to withstand 33 volts. The 
other spec I found was 8 to 40v. I would guess the Mac probably 
supplies 12v, way more than the 6.3v cap could handle. A case of PPD 
(Piss Poor Design).
