Did you look at the Apple article referenced above? It indicates that your iMac requires Firmware Update 4.1.9. (And has a link for the download.)

Yes. This article was only updated 9/18; I downloaded before that. So I wonder if I wait a couple of days they'll update the iBook download requirement to 4.1.9 as well? Since it won't take 4.1.7 while I'm running 9.2.2.
And for the moment it's a moot point. I just discovered that the Jaguar DVD I bought from eBay is only a restore disk; I can't use it for first-time installation. I feel really gypped at this point, but I'm buying a Jaguar box set of CDs now and it'll be here in a few days. A real set this time! I know I should probably just wait until...what is it next, Panther?...ships, but I really want to get started in OSX already.
