Does the eMac also have an airport card? You seem to imply that it did, but if not, none of the following will work without an ethernet cable connection between your laptop and eMac.
If your router provided each computer with a local IP Address, you may be able to connect by going to
Apple Menu --> System Preferences --> Network --> TCP/IP tab --> Configure pull-down menu to Using DHCP.
This works for me using an Airport.
To connect to the other computer
Go --> Connect to Server
and then enter a valid user name and password for the target computer. If you enter an administrator user name and password you can chose to access the entire hard drive of the target computer, which is most useful to me when I am transferring files.
I'm sure you will get several replies to this post. If mine doesn't work or make sense, hopefully one of them will.

I just got a new laptop, airport card and SMC wireless router and I am surfing the net wirelessly but can I use this set up to network the laptop with my eMac and if so how do I do that. I use the traget mode with firewire to transfer files but can I transfer wirelessly?
Thanks in advance, TmB
