I have a model similar to yours, a DV SE graphite so I find this interesting.

Is the computer dusty or in need of cleaning ???

Anything blocking upper or lower vents ???

Is there a chance that it is powering down because it is getting too hot ???

Does it ever power down within the first half-hour of starting up cold or does it ONLY happen after several hours of use ???

By all means get a new PRAM battery but I have never head of a desktop Mac actually shutting down because of a dying PRAM battery.

I've got an iMac DV SE (the Graphite colored one). For a while now it has
been turning itself off for no reason. Usually it happens when idle and
no one is around (I'll leave the room, come back an hour later and it
will be off), but once in a while it will do it while in use.
