I am also half thinking the 17" is the same as the one in the 17" Powerbook (the fact it is wide screen is a big give-away)
IIRC, didn't the 17" PowerBook come after the 17" Imac? I seem to recall Steve mentioning that during the Keynote address when the 17" PowerBook was announced. He said something like: "Where did we get the idea/" and then a slide of the iMac came up on the screen.
