So, you only use Macs that have 680x0 chips? If you want to use Mac OS 10.x then your computer must have at least a Generation 3 (G3) PowerPC chip. If you want to use Mac OS 9, then you MIGHT be able to use a G2 PowerPC chip, i.e., a PowerPC 603. The PowerPC 601 & 604 chips were the the first generation of PowerPC chips. I don't see how you can be using a current Mac OS with out using a PowerPC chip.

That's not what I think he meant. His point, I suspect, was he (and for that matter I also) chose to use a 'Apple Macintosh' not an 'Apple PowerPC'. The Macintosh ethos is totally separate from what chip it runs on (the seamless step from 68k to PPC is proof). I'm not suggesting that they should or shouldn't use PowerPC but the fact is I'd prefer to use Mac OS over anything else no matter what platform it is running on.

And, yes, I know that Apple has a version of MacOS 10 that runs on Intel architecture chips but that was just an in-house test in case Motorola fell on its face. Fortunately, IBM came through, so the MacIntel wasn't needed.

This proves the point totally. It was still totally a Mac OS X version and it wasn't reliant on the PowerPC architecture.

I join the voices who say I frankly don't care if it takes 0.5 seconds longer to do a filter process in Photoshop on a G5. At the end of the day you save more time not futtering bout with stupid Windows frailties while you are working so the OS and the CPU combine to save time. There is, as the saying goes, more than one way to skin a cat...
