What's an error 1280?

Help! Tried to install my new printer on OS X 10.2.8, and got all the 
way through, until the "add printer to printer center". I click on Add 
after choosing the right printer, and get "error 1280". What has me 
screaming is that this has happened with 2 different brands of 
printers, and searching the Apple website for the error turns up no 
information. I'm getting truly discouraged. I got this printer so I 
could print in both 9 and 10. I can print in 9, but not 10, which is 
where I'm weaning myself to work more!
