No the extreme cards will not fit in the older Macs. The older cards 
work fine with Air Port extreme base station  but at the slower speed. 
I am running a 400mhz  iMac DV model with older airport cards and 
Airport Extreme base station and they work fine. The new extreme 
airport station does enable you to do a direct connection between 
computer and base station with an ethernet cable. I bought the Air Port 
extreme base station in anticipation of purchasing a new eMac in the 
next few months and after I install Panther I hope to set up a wireless 
printer as well.  By the way I have a couple of the mint condition 
original Graphite Airport base stations to sell which work fine.  They 
would be great to set up with computers that require the older airport 
cards which can be bought very reasonably at the present time. They 
only have one ethernet connection so they cannot by connected by cable 
to a computer.
