That's kind of what I figured. And I'm sure my USB CD drive's design doesn't help any (its got some dongle adaptor so the USB to IDE smarts are all really in the cable) >I have heard of people connecting two hard drives at once to the iMacs >internal IDE bus, one hard drive replacing the internal CD. It's not too >simple though, the internal CD doesn't have a standard ribbon cable, so you >need some sort of adapter. I haven't done it myself, but some people on the >list probably have. I've tried connecting an Apple ROM'd IDE drive inline with the hard drive, but it still won't boot from the CD. I don't know if maybe when you hold down C to boot the iMac only looks at IDE bus 1 (the normal one for the internal CD drive). Since I'm connecting the IDE CD drive as a slave on the IDE 0 bus with the hard drive, maybe it can't boot from that. It does read the CD once the Mac is booted, but since I need to repartition the hard drive, I can't be booting off the hard drive. Its looking like I either have to swap the hard drive into my other iMac (something I REALLY don't want to do as its a production machine and is already having power problems, so I don't want to rock the boat with it), or my brother gets a late xmas present after I can track down a new CD drive for the bondi. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
