Just in case someone else has this problem! I just installed Panther,
10.3.2 on my flat panel iMac. I also have an 80gig external drive where
I have Jaguar installed, plus everything on my old hard drive, prior to
the Panther install. So, into the startup disk panel, and select the
external drive. Everything starts up tickety boo, but up comes the
sofware update. Without thinking, I let it go ahead and do it's thing.
Remember this is on the external drive. So, when automatic re-boot
occurs, the computer cannot find a startup disk! I went into my Master
OS X keystroke list and tried everything under the sun to get that iMac
to re-start....nyet! Nada! Nuttin! I tried everything I could think of,
and even let it cool down for an hour or so. And tried it all again.
same result. Was I getting frustrated? Somewhat. Was the air turning
blue? Nope, more like puce! And then I decided to do something I had
never done before command-option-O-F which brings up the firmware screen
and when I typed mac-boot .....Magic! Away we went in glorious Blue! Was
I happy? Yup! So, if anyone else has the same problem, or one like it,
just go into the terminal, and boot up that way. Cheers, old Doug in BC
