>I'm not sure if this is a dumb question, but here goes: >Surfing the net, I come across this or that e-book for free download. >Wanting to see it, I download it only to find that it's in .exe format. >Is there a program for OSX that allows you to open such a file. >Apart from Virtual PC, of course.
As others have already said, chances are its a self extracting zip archive. Stuffit can decompress those. Just treat it like any other zip file in Stuffit (so just select it and choose Expand like all other archives). However, it should be noted that if it does NOT decompress with Stuffit, then there is a chance that it isn't really an ebook at all, but rather a trojan horse. Totally harmless to your Mac, but potentially a huge problem if you give it to a Windows using friend to open for you. Obviously you may be able to judge the likeliness of this based on where you got the ebook. If you got it from a real ebook web site, then it may be real, if you got it from an ebook newsgroup, its probably a trojan horse. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
