To reply to your question, no.
Have used an APC 400 backup for , what ten years?
The APC unit has just recived a new back up battery, APC is great!

And, I have had for years had a meter on both the source
voltage and the line voltage out to the computer.
The phone line for the modem goes through the device as well.

Spikes inbound to my residence are common.
I have my sound system on another APC 400 for simialr reasons.
Live at west end of Lake Ontario, in the province of Ontario
some 30 miles west of Toronto.
And yes the voltage in the area can fluctuate;
a friend from the local public utility loaned my tracing device a year ago,
the voltage spikes in mid-winter were interesting, to say the least,
particularly when the temperature dipped below 30 degrees Celsius, as it
has done this
past week!

So had also though of the voltage problem. With the iBook, I run the
battery until it goes flat, then plug it \
in to recharge. Up and down; constantly, keeps the battery happy.

Any other suggestions?
