HD enclosures

In looking for FireWire hard disk drive enclosures, I notice that 
some are much more expensive because they contain Oxford 911 
chipsets. What does the chipset do that makes the enclosure better 
than one without the chipset?

Herb Goodfriend (who just installed a 4GB HD pulled from an iMac in a 
$45 FW/USB2 enclosure and is happy that it works)
