I just installed an AirPort card in my iMac 400 DV and through the hole in the heat shield I could see the PRAM battery, so I'd guess you just need to take off the bottom of the case and unscrew the heatshield to get at it.
Any of the iMac disassembly guides out there out to help you do it. There's one at Macworld and links to it at XLR8YourMac. Hope this helps.
