Take that cable off the back of the drive and you'll see a 'standard' 50 
pin ATAPI slim/laptop drive connector. _That's_ what you plug the "laptop 
to desktop adapter" into.

Don't even bother trying to match your Apple optical drive cable to a 
standard cable pinout, you'll have to build one yourself. It's _much_ 
easier to just buy the above-mentioned adapter and plug everything 
together. I bought several @ ~$6 each from <http://www.pimfg.com>, seach 
for item # 'E50A13-2'. Yikes, I checked just now and they're up to almost 
$9 each! Dang that weak US$$!!!
