This is not correct. I have seen with my own eyes the rotating cube effect on a G3 -- but it has to have a 32MB Radeon-class card or better. The effect is Quartz Extreme-dependent, not processor dependent.

True, but I think the point is that only G4s, in general, COME with Quarts Extreme as an "out of the box" feature.


Quartz Extreme can, of course, be ADDED to a G3 after the fact, accounting for your experience.


Not true. I don't think the guy that replied with the G3 iBook would have been able to 'add' anything to his laptop to gain QE. Well, unless it wasn't enabled by default, and he did the hack or used PCI Extreme to enable it, which he didn't indicate, and I doubt he did anyway.


QE is dependent on the video system, and nothing else. The OS looks at your hardware, and automatically either enables QE if it meets the requirements, or leaves it off if not.
