Don't know how one defines CHEAP but one of the Mac specialty houses has original Apple Superdrives available for $300. Original Apple ROM, Apple stickers, even lacking (correctly) the damn button to open the drawer! I thought the price was REASONABLE so I bought one. Has worked absolutely without fail since the instant I installed it. It is one of the Apple-branded Pioneer 105 drives. I believe it is considered chic to by a non-Apple 105 for $200 but I have read a few horror stories about recognition issues, etc. For me, even one afternoon futzing with a machine is not worth the $100 savings (Freudian hangover from the dark days of playing PC tech, I imagine). In any case, the $300 hurt for just a day and we have been burn burn burning our way to ecstasy every minute since. By the way, not sure if it the bulletproofness, ease of use or an actual speed increase, but every one marvels at how fast the thing burns. If the $300 fits your budget I will try to dredge up the name of the vendor.
