I just replaced the HD in my iMac DV (400 MHz) with an 80 GB Maxtor ATA/133 (8 MB cache).
The computer boots up and I put the Panther Install CD into the drive and use the Disk Utility to Format and zero the drive and everything goes flawlessly. When I try to install Mac OS X, it puts a red stop (!) sign on the drive and says that I cannot install Mac OS X on the current volume and that I can't boot from it. Hmm. I go back to Disk Utility and in the drive info window it says "Bootable: yes". I partition it again with 2 partitions (1 less than 10 GB and the rest of the drive on the second). Still nothing. I try enabling Journaling, then the UNIX file system. Nothing seems to work. How can I get Panther installed on this computer? Thanks!
