Really, the powerbook, imac and emac are all pretty much the same with only
the standard upgrades available (ram, hard drive, and maybe optical drive).
The systems will vary in performance depending on processor.

A tower, however gives you many upgrades and additions prolonging the life.
The towers generally come with better video cards that allow for the latest
games (if you into that), video editing, or 3D animation.

It all really depends on what you want to do with the computer. The current
line of Macs are all very powerful and can handle just about all the tasks
listed above.
