David Do you have any other monitor or speakers next to your iMac as magnetic inteference from a monitor next ot it can cause theis wobbling as you describe. Also check to see if you have any 'wall warts' (power adaptors) for powering say USB or firewire devices as close proximity of the transformer in the power adaptor can throw out enough magnetic field to interfere with your iMac display if it is close enough.
