I will hazard a guess as to what they meant to say.
I had to replace my Graphite iMac's keyboard because of an unfortunate crushing of a shift key with a dropped coffee cup. I ordered a replacement keyboard from, I think, MacZone that had no disclaimers about what should go with what...
Anyhow, I found that trying to plug the mouse into the new keyboard and then the keyboard into a USB hub caused all sorts of problems. I thought my keyboard had a short in it. I called the company that made the thing, and they said that the newer iMacs (I don't think it had anything to do with OSX) had different power setups than the older ones. My keyboard was meant for those older iMacs. They suggested not plugging the mouse into the keyboard -- and that worked thank goodness.
In short, it may be a power specification issue that makes them mention particular models of iMac.
Good luck.
