I have only used one of the apps you listed -- Cocktail -- but I can tell you that there is a freeware alternative called OnyX that does all the same things (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070). Many (perhaps most) people switched to OnyX when Cocktail became shareware. It works well and is safe.
