You can just get a WiFi access point and set it to be a wireless client rather than an access point (base station).

I have a D-Link DWL-2000AP 802.11g access point and even though I do use it as an AP not a client, it is straight forward to set it up as a client, you just need the MAC address of the base station. Then just use a crossover ethernet cable to connect the AP to the iMac.

Also, Lucent Tech wireless devices work as Airport and Airport Extreme, so maybe you can get a USB Lucent tech wireless adapter?
