I'm not sure how your router is set up, but it is possible that the router
has a built-in firewall. This firewall could be set to block the ports that
are used by software update, etc. Try disabling the firewall and see if this
helps. Then you can set it up again, if you want, making sure to first learn
which ports not to block.
