Your problem is probably caused by the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) being set to 1500 while you have a DSL modem (as do I) that "fakes" a PPPoE connection that will pass a maximum of 1492 bytes. I have developed a couple Applescripts with instructions on how to use them that solved the problem for me (using airport extreme base station, Earthlink DSL, etc.). Download the dmg file from my .mac website: sr_phillips is the user ID and it is in my public folder. The file name is MTU Changers.dmg.
