Just an update to everyone.
I have successfully installed an Asante wireless router (802.11b) Model # FR1004AL on the eMac, and an Asante Aero card in my IBM Thinkpad laptop and a Belkin 802.11g PCI card in my daughters PC clone desktop.
All are working in great harmony.
A few things to note:
Make sure you have the most recent firmware. I downloaded mine from the Asante site, but I needed to also download the MacUtilities to install it correctly. It was impossible to install without the utilities.
The MAC address of the router (default MAC address) was not compatible with my cable modem connection. I had to call the cable company, Charter Communications (not Earthlink, who carries my account.. long story) and get the MAC address for the cable modem (a WebStar).
Even after hooking everything up, to make it work, I had to shut everything off, power down the cable modem and the router, then power up the cable modem, wait for it to connect, then power up the router and get the activity lights, and then power up the eMac.
After this, everything worked like a charm. I can now officially send email from the bathroom to the bedroom.
