More than likely, it wouldn't work (saying you can even match the genders
on the connectors). Any multimode mice I know of, the smarts to them is
built into the mouse, not into the adaptor. The adaptor does nothing
other than change the connector shape. From there the mouse detects if it
is PS/2, USB, serial, whatever and switches itself accordingly (older
ps/2-serial mice actually had a switch on the bottom of the mouse that
you had to flip to make the change)

$30 is a bit steep, but they can be had cheaper. CompUSA claims on their
web site the exact same adaptor I bought is only $15, and someone else
listed a site when I first asked the question, that had them for $7.00.

I only paid $30 because I needed it now, Office Depot is open early, and
I can pass them on the way into work. So to me, the $15 difference
between Office Depot and CompUSA wasn't worth it when I had to factor in
taking time out of work to go to CompUSA to get the part (CompUSA looses
out on quite a bit of my small computer parts sales simply because they
don't open until 10am and that means taking time out of work to go
there... Office Depot and Staples both open at 7am so I can stop on my
way into work in the morning... so they get my business)

The next time I do this, I will plan a little more in advance, and
probably buy one online somewhere for much cheaper (I have another iMac
logic board to bring to life, and will need another keyboard/mouse. If I
can spend $7.00 and recycle some of the stacks of PS/2 parts I have, all
the better)
