Hi All Noticed the posts on Cable Modems and Wireless Networks, and have a related problem involving a dialup modem! I have an Imac and G4 both running Panther and a Bintel box running JokeDows 2000 Pro (sorry but Fruity Loops and CakeWalk Sonar don't come in Mac versions).
No, but Garageband and Logic do. I'm not saying throw your PC out the window, just noting that there are similar offerings on the Mac.
How do I get the other two machines to access the internet?
Well, there are several ways. I know that the Mac has internet connection sharing built-in, and I assume the "Jokedows" machine does too -- can't remember if that's a feature of 2000 Pro or Xtra Poor.
I have setI would have thought the Internet sharing option (and setting the other machines to get their connection from the LAN) would be all you need, but because you're also crossing platforms, perhaps a router does need to be involved -- it would make the process simpler in terms of growth, at least.
the Internet sharing option on the iMac, but do I need a hardware router
to get the other two to be able to use the internet? How do I set up the
G4 and Jokedows 2000 Pro machines to use the internet via the iMac?
So, you connect via the Mac (or the PC) with internet sharing turned on, plug THAT computer into the WAN port, and connect the other machines as normal. Obviously, a dialup connection isn't going to have much bandwidth to share, but for checking email and light surfing it shouldn't be a problem. If DSL or cable becomes available in your area, get the best deal you can and go for it -- it doesn't cost anything more than a dedicated phone line and the difference is like night and day.

There is only ONE WAY to get through the hype for and against the new film "Farenheit 9/11" -- see it for yourself and make up your own mind. Everybody else, please shut up.
