Would somebody please send eWeek a picture of an eMac and an iBook?

Eh, what ?!

Are you seriously suggesting that the eMac is a substitue for the iMac ???

There's no substitute for the iMac - I know I own one too, however the eMac has improved markedly since it was introduced and offers a lower cost alternative. The iBook offers a higher quality of user experience similar to the iMac. If you jump up and down on Apple retailers at the moment who have no iMac stock you will most likely be able to get an iBook with Bluetooth and a wireless keyboard and mouse kit for the same price as a 15" iMac. The screen is smaller physically on the iBook but runs at the same resolution (1024x768).

I have had numerous (!) CRT iMacs (233MHz - 500MHz) and am currently
enjoying a beatiful 1GHz iMac Flat panel.

I've had my 800MHz almost a year (10 Months almost to the day) and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with it as a design.

I thought my MDD "wind tunnel" was noisy, but at least I could shove that
under the desk, but the eMac thunders away ON the desk.

For what it's worth, if I turn off my music i can hear my iMac quite easily. On hot days the fan runs quite fast. FWIW I *believe* the fan in the eMac is the same as the one in the iMAc G4. I know the early eMacs were excessively noisy but I thought they had corrected it. Where do you live and what is your typical daytime temperature?

Nah, iMac and eMac... HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!

Yes, there is. I don't think Chas was suggesting it as a substitute, but instead suggesting eWeek were being short sighted, as the eMac and iBook G4 are both very much mainstream level consumer machines. I almost see the iMac as mid-range anyway, rather than base consumer level. I sure hope the new one is better value for money (I suppose it will be if it's a G5!).
