Sorry, missed the beginning of this thread.
Select the launch icon of the program whose memory allocation you want to increase.
Do a "get info". When that comes up, the "General Information" will be shown. Use the
drop-down menu to select "Memory". There you have it. You can play with the numbers in the
boxes to your heart's content, always bearing in mind the total memory available to play
about with. I'd recommend entering the same value in both lower boxes.
Play around with the values until you achieve your desired result. If you don't intend to run
too many programs at the same time, you can be reasonably generous.
If you're unhappy, you can change the values back again or go somewhere in the middle.
