I had this problem. Suggested fixes I found were: 1. Zap PRAM (others have already offered this) 2. Reset the NVRAM (do a search on google for the commands, but ISTR it was "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", as well as a handful of other options such as changing just the boot option both from Open Firmware, and from the OS X command line). 3. Neither of those worked for me, and so I found a last option, repartition the drive. This of course requires blanking the drive, so be sure to fully back up. This was the only thing I found that finally cured it.
