Hi, everyone ... I just purchased a "new" tangerine iMac, 400, slot-loading DVD, 192 MB memory. I also purchased a used Airport card and carrier and am attempting to get the new machine on my network.
My 802.11b network's base station is a Belkin. The network has functioned well with several different 3rd party pc cards on numerous PowerBooks, but I haven't been able to get the iMac to recognize the network. iMac's running OS 9.1, Airport ver 2.0.2 (iirc) ... iMac's sitting about 3 feet from the base station at the moment. Apple System Profiler recognizes the wireless card, Airport is turned on, but Airport Setup tells me there are "no Airport networks in range". I've reseated the Airport card, carrier, and antenna cable. Is there software/firmware setup I need to do to get the Airport card to recognize the 3rd party base station? Any ideas/direction appreciated. Also ... as soon as I can get the iMac loaded up with RAM, I'm planning to install OS X (most likely Panther) ... unless you all slap me in the head and tell me that would be stupid ;-) This will be my kitchen Mac ... want to use it for Web surfing, recipe software, and occasional DVD viewing.
