Trying to help a friend who has an old iMac, running pre-OSX: maybe even 8.x.
She knows zilch.
She was getting "lots" of spam in her Outlook express account and wanted to set up the spam filters Micros**t was offering. She was on version 4.6 and needed to update to 5.6 (approx. version numbers since I'm no longer in her house to write this).
I downloaded and installed the update. Started it and it asked which account to set up: there were 3 listed: one "Main User", one her daughter's name and one in her name. I selected the latter and let it convert. BUT, it contained next to no emails, certainly not the one from Microsoft that offered to set up spam filters, and in fact nothing later than Y2000. I killed it, trashed OE and started another one from the downloaded .bin file. Started it and selected, this time, the daughter's name as user. Same story, slightly different contents, but nothing recent. Trashed, reloaded another new version, started it as Main User and...same dumb story.

I've gone through this routine several times and I can't figure out what else to do? Unfortunately, once I started the new version, the old version had forgotten its settings and again asked me to select as User from those 3. Again, none of them work.

Is this something simple (I hope) that I'm overlooking or is my friend shafted, or...any other options?

thanks.
