Based on your reasoning above, it is illegal for me to watch a video on my bedroom player that I've watched on the living room player. You are defining two identical pieces of HARDWARE as being "medium". A better example are video tape and dvds. Those are both "medium" but are played on DIFFERENT pieces of hardware.
