This may not have anything to do with it but, I recently got an older
powerbook and the screen looked very dim before and after reinstalling the
system software. After thinking it was the bulb for a while, I finally went
to the control panel Monitor and went to COLOR and changed it from generic
to powerbook and it fixed it right up. This may not apply to you but it's my
2Cents.
